As well, I had in mind to discuss something more entertaining and due to the incredible number of emails received (I have been informed), today's talk will be around the hot topic of...'Octomom'.
And Then There Were 50...
In case you have been living under a rock (Or, as I refer to as being busy), you may have heard the on-going saga of a woman who had a 'few' babies and what normally would not garner the time of day (No disrespect), has become a national news event, topic for every Celeb Blog and now regular smack for Late-Night fodder.
I must admit to being rather conflicted, perplexed and revolted all in the same by this saga and the never ending chain of events. My first thought was "Hey, Good Luck" (I have never been a mother - at least not of a real human baby), therefore my threshold of emotion is largely detached. I say live and let live.
My subsequent follow-up responses over the past few months have remained unchanged and I have been quick to remind those concerned that it is her decision and chosen life.
Which brings us to this impasse...
The Reality of Being Mom
I had been apprised a few weeks prior that a "Reality Show" concept was being actively shopped on the circuit. The concept of conversation at the time had been about presenting the again mother as "Baby Expert".
I had no great reaction for or against, however was puzzled as what was meant by the moniker.
My thought was you mean, "Baby Expert" as "Expert at having babies?" - terminology in the Logline is important when attempting to sell a concept!
Anyway despite my malaise and bewilderment on the concept, it appears that a deal has indeed been made with a Production Company (Eyeworks, a UK based company) and a new Reality Show may indeed be moving forward as a documentary reality series (aka 'Docu-Soap'). Ah, my fellow Brits always a step ahead. We are a blastedly Genius group.
Wait a minute...According to friends at TLC (Very well known for high quality family programming - You're welcome!), they have made definitive statement that they have no intention of developing a show with "Mother".
Zealous masses have been expressing their intention to hold sanctions against the network should they decide to air such a show - I tell you, TV fans are a powerful group. No one ever bombards or calls the studio about displeasure over a movie - not that I am encouraging such behavior (After all, I am the future head of a major studio).
Alright my fellow citizens, I implore you (As the voice of influence) to conserve your time, there will be PLENTY of events to get lathered over...Believe me...Choose your battles fans...
So, What Gives?
It is not a wonder that "Mother" would like to have to have a show. Everyone that I come in contact with wants the same. Each believing they are unique and have an interesting story to tell.
Where this debate becomes moderately interesting (Now we are finally getting to the point!) is whether or not it is because of self serving need for fame, attention and wants? Or, is it a perceived financial decision? Many believe there is tons of money to be made in this business, to which I reply, "You have no idea".
Furthermore, the dubious question remains - was this a plan from "Get Go" or just a case of making lemons out of lemonade? Maybe I mean, lemonade out of lemons...
Maybe or Maybe Not.
Having said, although the show may actually happen, it may not even air within the states. It could be quite the spectacle in a completely different country. Imagine.
On the one hand, I am thrilled with the idea that "Mother" is desperately trying to secure a financial future. The ambition has been revealed, and really what other choice given the circumstance would provide opportunity for such morbid financial advancement? As some would believe.
Public Assistance could never provide the level of lifestyle and security required for long term stability and growth. PA was never intended for long term as a lifestyle, however I will not triangulate into a political blather on this topic...Today.
14 Dollars and Cents
A fortune will be required to raise such a enormous country (Oops, I meant family).
Why just wait until you have 14 teenagers who all want Gucci, Ralph Lauren, numerous shoes, designer eyewear, stocks, investments and business interests (What? Oh, wait that was my childhood - it was a 'bit' remarkable).
So, I say the 'Octomom' Reality Show should actually be postponed until the kids are in their teen years - Ha, now that would be far more interesting! Could you imagine raising 14 teenagers all at once? You may run screaming from the room now.
My final thought, there is nothing wrong with trying to make a name for yourself to support your family - it's not different than anyone, anywhere. Granted the means may be somewhat abnormal, however the end is relatively the same.
Good Luck Kids!
