I'm having a great week and hope the same for you.
Before I am remiss in mentioning - Thank you for all of your emails, cards and letters responding to the topics in which I choose to expand upon in this corner of written entertainment; Further, appreciate your suggested topics.
Indeed I often contemplate the day when I will be able to occupy my entire schedule with our lively exchanges to which you find a certain level of hilarity (My words paraphrasing your words) and really, there are a number of topics that we could discuss or not...
As such, too many topics, too little time...Glad you get my Brit humour (A-ha, so I did warn you that I am hysterical in my fabulously cerebral dry Witt) and I am thrilled that you are here, so let's get started!
Topic Du Jour: The Celebrity Apprentice
Cue The Music
For some reason each time I hear the title, "The Apprentice" and or variation thereof, I hear the show's theme song (In my head) - I am unable to dis-associate the song "Money", by the O'Jays (Which I know existed long before the show), from the show.
I often wondered why this particular song was chosen and personally, not my preference. Yes, I care for money but just not this particular ode to the green. I mean, how many other songs are about money? There is "Money" by Pink Floyd and then there's Eddie Money (Total Non-sequitur).
Of course, I realize none of the before mentioned were not in/for my generation and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana probably would not have been a better nor even related choice (My generation). Although, it would be funny - could you imagine? Now that would be some opener!
For this is the dilemma with not using originally produced music specifically for a show. Anytime an actual song is licensed (aka 'Sold Out') from the Artist/Label, it forever becomes the property of association with the brand using the tune.
Said conditions however, work out great for a new unknown Artist. In fact, we receive soo many CDs, MP3s and contacts from new Artists requesting to be added to our list for future production music that we could literally start our own Record Label. There is tons of undiscovered talent just waiting to be heard!
In the case of The Apprentice (Celebrity), the theme song is now required for the show - Don is a superstitious type, if something is successful - why change it?
You're Fired Again...
Always on time and never to miss a meeting, according to friends at NBC:
"This season the competition is more cut throat than ever with a group of celebrities that will fight, tooth and nail, to win."
The boardroom will feature a "rotating seat," allowing a variety of famous business leaders and industry legends to join Trump in spirited judgment of the tasks. As with last season, winning celebrity teams will relish the opportunity to watch the losing team squirm in the boardroom..."
Famed Out?
Well, speaking of flashbacks, I have just arrived at a comfortable place where I now actually enjoy listening to 80's music (Via Pandora - Thank you!). Now, I am hoping to eventually feel the same about 90's celebrities:
Here are the top 16 starring on this season of the Celebrity Apprentice:
Clint Black - Well known Country singer.
Andrew Dice Clay - Infamously vulgar comedian from the 80's.
Annie Duke - World Series of Poker Champion.
Tom Green - Former MTV comedian (Once married to Drew Barrymore).
Natalie Gulbis - Professional Golfer.
Scott Hamilton - Former Olympic Gold-Winning Figure Skater.
Jesse James - Star of Monster Garage & Custom bike builder (Married to Sandra Bullock).
Claudia Jordan - Appears on "Deal or No Deal".
Khloe Kardashian - Youngest of the Kardashian sisters.
Brian McKnight - R&B Singer/Songwriter.
Joan Rivers - Famous Comedian and Red Carpet Queen.
Melissa Rivers - Joan's daughter and sidekick.
Brande Roderick - Former Star of Baywatch.
Dennis Rodman - Former professional NBA Bad boy.
Herschel Walker - Former Heisman Trophy Winner & NFL player.
Tionne Watkins - T-Boz from the 90's group TLC.
To Fee Or Not To Fee!
Of course, unlike the regular previous successful versions of The Apprentice where the competition eluded to a 250k year job among the common folk, the celebs will not be competing for a spot in the Trump head office - Even though, I would like to see this twist and would actually write follow-up 'Life After' show something as such - "I'm the winner of the Celebrity Apprentice, how may I direct your call?" Hey, they need work too!
Rather instead, the D-listers are competing for their charities of choice (Themselves - Oops, oh no I didn't...There I go again saying too much). Ah, before you start getting all high and mighty, they are getting paid an appearance fee per episode as well. If we remain on this path, expect to see a higher level of celeb turnout in future editions as the show's budget increases to afford paying the talent to participate.
So what does all of this mean? Such intensity will result in flare-ups that, Piers Morgan says, "make his legendary fights with Omarosa look like a tea party."
Ha well, not sure about you, but I have been to some pretty intense tea parties (Those Frat/Sorority 'functions' can get pretty wildly...but I digress).
The Show airs on Sunday at 9 PM on NBC.
