Political Rhetoric on Television

Hello Friends!

I trust that you are experiencing a great week, thus far...I am just now beginning to return to amazing normalcy after a week long hiatus.

We have a plethora of new programs across the Networks this week and can look forward to not only the premiere of America's Next Top Model, 90210 rehash (Why could it not have been Melrose Place instead?!), Top Design, Kitchen Nightmares, and the MTV Music Awards - your schedule should be more than full with exciting new TV viewing options.

Further, although I have been moderately intrigued to start another blog dedicated to politics and the economy (Yes, you had no idea of my interest in this subject matter), you will rarely ever read about political related fodder on this entertaining episodic blog.

Until today...

Politicos Politicking

Well, I am uncertain if you had watched the star-studded Democratic National Convention a week prior, and this week the Republican (Non-star-studded) National Convention.

Quite frankly, I have not been viewing the coverage, nor do I have intention to create an opening in my schedule for such obvious "Buy Me" sales pitch presentations. There is enough advertising in the world.

Respectively, I recognize and appreciate the fact that there a number of viewpoints on a number of subjects in the world of politics. However in my favorable analysis, having a number of viewpoints can be debilitating to action and clear direction.

"Too many spending too much time thinking about doing, rather than taking a clear and decisive action to do" - My current position on the political structure.

What does it really matter who or what?
No matter which 'side', the fact remains that it is all relatively insignificant. Daily life and responsibilities will not change, regardless of which figure head resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

For you see my despondence is merely a consequence of hearing a great deal of speak and not enough relevant follow-up action. I still have yet to hear actual detailed plan of how this 'so-called change' is supposed to work, be implemented and be supported.

Yes, we all agree that we need change, now let's quit talking about needing change and begin the process of change already!

Conversing with fourth graders, often requires conversing as a fourth grader. So, here is my basic recapture of said politico rhetoric.

Politician: "It's time for change, blah, blah, blah" (Applause).
My Comment: "Yeah, that sounds really great. So, what did you have in mind?"
Politician: "Like I said, it's time for change, blah, blah, blah"
My Comment: "We agree, so what's THE PLAN?"

You get the idea....

Now, a hand slap to the 'other' team the Republicans - Forget about 'Attacking' your opponent to acquire slippery support, get to the important information rather than wasting time deflecting from the issues and acting as children on a playground pointing fingers - quite frankly, it is ridiculous and tiresome.

Not to disappoint, here is a recap of this side:

Politician: "My opponent is a Rock Star with Celebrity status."
My Comment: "You have shared your view, now what do YOU have to offer?"
Politician: "I bring years of experience to the position."
My Comment: "Okay, have you been successful in said experience and what is the benefit of this qualification as it pertains to the well-fare of the country?"
Politician: "I bring years of experience to the position."

Again, you get the idea...Interview - FAIL.

No Message In The Message
Upon viewing clips (Unintentionally, of course) I often find amusement in the fact that said speakers really repeat the same statements over and over - and receive applause from the audience.

If you have ever been to a comedy tour, it is much the same method (Insert joke told in San Francisco here) in which the routine and material is consistently re-worked with slight variation according to the audience.

Having said all of the above, my suggestion get rid of the SPAM talk and converse with the citizens as fellow intelligent beings.

Really, we need Hecklers at these events. Hecklers are often overlooked, but they represent real people with common sense viewpoint, that can be perceived with a sense of skeptical cynicism. Rather than listening to the same canned speak over and over, a few Hecklers would keep the discussions lively (Real life can not be contained in a canned speech written on a piece of paper), rather than continually allow these showmen the opportunity to make blanket, meaningless statements of grandeur.

Even better, having strategically placed Hecklers during the televised speeches would not only keep this rhetoric focused and current, but would as well deliver ample ratings (At least on YouTube) and liven things up for a memorable, engaging show - you see another great idea of how to improve your programming, compliments of Yours Truly. You're welcome.
