Autobots and Decepticons
What a movie! Of course as a Action/Adventure/Sci-fi junkie, I ALWAYS clear my schedule to see anything that looks 'Cool' and this past weekend, I was not alone....
It's obvious that you were also at the movies this past weekend, as well, and not necessarily sitting at home watching the well attended star studded Live Earth/ Gore concert event. I'm sure if you did not TIVO the show, it will be re-broadcast within the week.
More Than Meets The Eye
Box Office numbers report an opening weekend of close to $70 (67.6) million and the highest grossing weekend for this raucous shape changing non-sequel film. Which brings me to your emails. The question everyone is asking, "Will there be a sequel?"
Absolutely - You better believe it!
Robots Rule
Most of my friends thought the idea of "the hold out" was of moderate nobility in theory, however not realistic. Transformers have been in most of our lives, really. I remember as a kid, there was Transformers the cartoon (1986) and the Hasbro toys have been around for decades, why all of the excitement?
Well, after not having seen a movie (In the theater) for 2 years, this one proved to be an amazing experience and I could not have a chosen a better movie - glad I held out for the cast of Optimus Prime from Cybertron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Prime).
What's Wrong with CGI Toys and Action Set Pieces?
More importantly, a great transition of a TV show re-purposed onto the BIG SCREEN - this is where I chime in to remind all of the 'critics' who are always quick to mention small screen shows do not translate to movie success...
Well guess what, baby? Based on the comic book, based on the animated series, based on the toys - it's called "Reverse Merchandising".
Hmm...I think we may have something here - quick, get out your toys - we can make them into movies!
